John E. Freeman

John Freeman was one of the finest all-around athletes to walk the halls of Augusta High School. A standout in basketball, track, and cross country, he was one of only two players under legendary coach Armand Hillier to average a double-double for a season. He was also a member of the 1976 State Indoor Track Championship team and a multi-time state qualifier in cross country. Off the court and track, John excelled as a 4.0 student and a proud leader in FCA, remembered for his kindness and genuine care for others.
After high school, John attended Baylor University’s College of Dentistry and served as a Captain in the United States Navy, with tours in Japan and Spain. He later built a respected career as a dentist and orthodontist, admired for his integrity, humility, and service. John passed away in 2012 after a battle with cancer and rests at Arlington National Cemetery. A devoted son, brother, husband, father, dentist, and naval officer, his legacy reflects a life lived with honor and service to others.
